CHIC DNA Repository (i.e. blood bank collection). The CHIC DNA Repository, co-sponsored by the OFA and the AKC/CHF, collects and stores canine DNA samples along with corresponding genealogic and phenotypic information to facilitate future research and testing aimed at reducing the incidence of inherited disease in dogs.
CHIC's centralized repository provides "one-stop shopping" for researchers and facilitates research by expediting sample collection – often one of the most time-consuming aspects of a dog genetics project. For the dog owner, CHIC's DNA Repository helps prevent "sample fatigue," i.e. repeatedly collecting blood samples, and allows breeders to take advantage of future DNA-based disease tests.
NOTE: This is our opportunity to make a large impact on the future health of our breed. We urge you to have all of your Danes collected, starting with your veterans while you still have them. We will schedule as many dogs as possible; you can also have this done at home but will have the added cost of a vet visit and overnight shipping. We encourage all Affiliate Clubs to put a clinic such as this on your to-do list.
Pre-registration (by September 2) required including a fee of $20 per dog. Please download from caninehealthinfo.org the forms "Application for DNA Repository" and "CHIC DNA Repository Health Survey" (three pages total); also complete the short Pre-registration form below so that we can send you confirmation of your scheduled time.
Mail all of this information with your check (made out to GDCA SE Division) to M. Shappard, 244 Callaway Road, Fayetteville, GA 30215.
